Position Summary The Communication Specialist will work in collaboration with department leadership to ensure accurate scheduling of all surgical procedures, GI Lab appointments, OB's C-Sections and the Pre-admission testing appointments, in coordination with all other resource providers (i.
e.
Anesthesia); according to provider preferences, and patient condition.
The Communication Specialist position includes the ability to brainstorm and attend meetings with members of the JMC software user groups and to work closely with the Director of OR Business Operations to accommodate all departmental customers, both internal and external.
This position is high profile, and requires gentle, persuasive talents.
The Communication Specialist is a member of the nursing team who performs clerical duties such as answering the phone, walkie-talkies, and beeper/pager systems as needed.
This position is a critical communication liasion between surgeons, anesthesia providers, Assistant Clinical Managers, Clinical Managers and the Director of Surgical Services.
The Communication Specialist also represents the gateway into the restricted environment of Surgery, making sure the security of the department entrance is maintained and inappropriate entrance to this area is prohibited.
Maintaining patient confidentiality is paramount to the successful delivery of surgical care, the posted schedule, the resulting paperwork are all managed and maintained with the outmost care assuring the privacy of our patients.
Performs other duties as assigned.
